Saturday Secret Matinees (2013 edition)

Weekly, January 5 - March 23, 2013

Grand Illusion Cinema
Seattle, WA

An annual three-month series recreating the old-fashioned weekend matinee, all on 16mm film. Each week, there is a cliffhanger episode of a movie serial (shown complete and in order), plus a secret classic feature. This was our fifth Secret Matinee series.

The serial Zorro’s Fighting Legion (1939, 12 episodes) is one of the very best movie ever made. The masked hero leads a militia of masked riders to battle the mysterious villian Don Del Oro (“Lord of Gold”), who poses as a Yaqui Indian god in a plot to conquer The Republic of Mexico. Directed by the legendary team of William Witney and John English, it’s packed with non-stop action, eye-popping stunts, exciting sword fights, and expert bull-whippery!

The secret classic features brought adventures and swashbucklers and more, organized into monthly themes. January: Heroes & Villains - It’s good guys vs. bad guys in epic battles for justice and freedom! February: Exotic Lands - Far rebellions, secret cults, and other breath-taking journeys into Terra incognita! March: Alien Encounters - Humans confronted by the ultimate unknown, in worlds beyond imagining!
