Experimental Animation Night
June 15, 2024
The Grocery StudiosSeattle, WA
An evening of experimental animation on 16mm film, curated by Stefan Gruber.
The program featured three of Stefan’s hand-made animations (Leashlessness, Throught City, and Lightweight), Kate Brown’s Free Run, and selections from the Sprocket Society archive chosen by Stefan.
Stefan Gruber (they/them) is an experimental animator and performance artist born in Seattle. You can usually find them creating films in their studio along the greenbelt, traversing the country to share their films live in theaters, galleries, and backyard shows; or playing a three-person hexagonal chess variant of their own invention called Starwell here in Seattle cafes.
At Nova Alternative School, Stefan has taught animation, unorthodox sports and mindfulness to high schoolers for over 20 years.
In summer 2024, Stefan will curate Bumbershoot’s handmade animation film festival, “Rock Paper Scissors.”
