Grand Illusion Cinema at SIFF Film Center Seattle, WA
The Grand Illusion Cinema presented a special 60th anniversary screening of Batman (aka Batman: The Movie), the feature film spin-off from the campy hit TV show starring Adam West (native son of Walla Walla, WA). The show was in collaboration with the Adam West Day committee.
Preceding the feature, we screened several Bat-shorts on 16mm: an episode from the 1949 movie serial Batman and Robin, and a two-part story from the 1968 Saturday morning cartoon show, The Batman/Superman Hour, Batman’s animation debut.
Making the show the ultimate Bat-tacular, Batman himself was there along with a full-scale, functional replica of the 1966 Batmobile. (A Batcopter replica had also been scheduled, but technical difficulties prevented its appearance. We suspect The Joker had something to do with it.)

Holy feature film, Batman! The Dynamic Duo face off against the fiendish faction of The Joker, The Penguin, The Riddler, and Catwoman, who plan to hold the world for ransom with the help of a secret invention that instantly dehydrates people.
Life-size replicas of both the Batcopter AND the Batmobile are scheduled to be on display nearby the venue starting at 6pm and up until showtime; and there will be opportunities for patrons to take photos with Batman himself! The feature will also be preceded by 16mm showings of a couple of the Caped Crusader’s early adventures, straight from the vaults of the Sprocket Society.
